The New York Knicks are on the look out for potential trade suitors for All-Star forward, Carmelo Anthony. Anthony has reportedly suggested that he would waive his no-trade clause if the Knicks could find the right trade partner. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets are in the box seat to claim Anthony should he waive the no-trade clause due to their contending ability and also because they have two of Anthony’s close friends on the roster in LeBron James & Chris Paul.
It has since emerged though that the Portland Trailblazers have thrown their hat into the ring to secure Anthony for the upcoming season. The Blazers believe that with the addition of Anthony they can push themselves up into the upper echelon of the tough Western Conference. Initially it had been suggested that the Blazers would be apart of a 3 team deal with the Rockets and Knicks to help facilitate Anthony to Houston. However Portland aren’t willing to be apart of a deal that helps a fellow Western Conference team, instead opting to chase Anthony themselves.
It would be a bold move for the Trailblazers as they would most likely have to give up a fair amount in return for potentially one season of an ageing Carmelo Anthony. Anthony’s contract expires at the end of next season with rumours of a banana boat reunion being fuelled, he may jump ship after just one season.
It is still expected that Anthony will only waive his no trade clause for the Cavaliers or Rockets but with a strong young core in Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic, he may consider a move to Portland.
