The NBA trade deadline is less than 3 weeks away and the trade winds are starting to pick up.
The Denver Nuggets have agreed to send out of favour big man Jusuf Nurkic along with their 2017 first round pick to the Portland Trailblazers in return for Mason Plumlee & their 2018 second round pick.
Nurkic had been looking for a fresh start after being pushed to the bench by Nikola Jokic. On the other hand Plumlee had been a serviceable contributor for the Blazers this season. However after the Blazers spent big last off-season keeping Plumlee beyond this season would mean dipping deep into the luxury tax. This way they get Nurkic still on his rookie deal plus a first rounder on top.
As for the Nuggets it may be risky picking up Plumlee who may walk at the end of the year, essentially costing them a first round pick. But a pairing of Plumlee and Jokic makes the Nuggets a much better team at the moment.
