After failing a medical in the past few days, Chris Bosh’s career with the Miami Heat appears to be over. Heat President, Pat Riley, stated that the franchise is not working towards his return.”I think Chris is still open-minded. But we are not working toward his return. We feel that, based on the last exam, that his Heat career is probably over.” Riley told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Bosh has battled with life threatening blood clots throughout the past 18 months, missing large chunks of basketball. However Bosh is still open minded to playing in the NBA again, but should he play for another team matters will become very complicated for the Heat.
If the Heat release Bosh and are granted a medical retirement waiver and then he comes back to play for another team, those cap savings disappear. The money gets placed back onto Miami’s cap, potentially preventing free-agent pickups and limiting the team for the next couple of seasons. Miami would also risk losing Bosh, a perennial All-Star, for nothing.
