The Minnesota Timberwolves have announced that big man, Nikola Pekovic will miss the entire 2016-17 season with an ankle injury. Unfortunately it has also been reported that the injury could also mean that Pekovic never steps foot on an NBA court again, effectively ending his career.
It is a major blow for the Timberwolves who are already struggling for big man depth following the retirement of Kevin Garnett over the weekend. Much of the load in the frontcourt will now be left up to Gorgui Dieng and budding superstar Karl-Anthony Towns.
Injuries have continually let Pekovic down during his six-year NBA career with the 30 year old never playing more than 65 games in a single season. Just a few short years ago he was a key figure in the Timberwolves starting line-up and was also considered one of the better big men in the game with averages of 17.5points, 8.7 rebounds (2013-14) & 16.3 points, 8.8 rebounds (2012-13).
